UNITED FOR GOOD: WATCH OUT FOR MISINFORMATION

By SDG Eric Tayag

Misinformation refers to false or misleading information that is spread unintentionally or deliberately, on social media or, by word of mouth. Make no mistake, misinformation has no place in Rotary District 3810, now under the aegis of our dynamic District Governor Mary Mei Rodrigo. It doesn’t echo our collective slogan for the whole Rotary community: “UNITED FOR GOOD”. Albeit you will agree that everyone struggles on what is misinformation and what it is not. Beginning in this maiden issue of GML, a series of articles on MISINFORMATION will serve as education for all of us. After all, knowing what we are dealing with, is the first step in addressing its untold consequences.

False narratives can undermine our efforts in community development, health, and education, disrupting trust and progress. It ruins confidence in many Rotary initiatives. False claims about vaccine safety can hinder END POLIO targets, while falsehoods about economic projects may deter community participation.

We can safeguard our goals and amplify impact if we know how to deal with misinformation. The FOUR WAY TEST reminds us on how we shall think, say or do as Rotarians. This time we will explore how it can be our bedrock in dealing with misinformation.

Club Presidents, your leadership can turn the tide against misinformation. Unite District 3810 to build informed, resilient communities where truth drives progress. Together, let’s ensure Rotary’s vision thrives, transforming lives across Manila, Pasay, Cavite, and Occidental Mindoro.
